Fair rent splitter
Split rent when the rooms aren't equal. Bigger room, own bathroom, no window: it all counts. Free, no sign-up, and you can send the result to your roommates.
Pays for the kitchen, living room and hallways; split equally per person. Bigger common areas, higher number.
Bedrooms
Size can be square feet or square meters; just use the same for every room. Leave it blank if you don't know.
Best when roommates disagree about which room is worth more. Each person says what they'd pay for each room so the numbers add up to the rent. Rooms go to whoever wants them most, at prices where nobody would rather swap.
Uses the bedrooms from the first tab. One bidder per room; a couple bids together.
How this splits the rent
By room size and features. Part of the rent pays for space everyone uses, so it's split equally per person (a couple in one room pays two shares). The rest is split by bedroom size, nudged up for a private bathroom, big closet or balcony, and down for no window, a noisy wall or a walk-through room. Change any of it and the numbers update.
Everyone bids. This is the method from fair-division research. Each roommate privately decides what each room is worth to them, with their numbers adding up to the rent. Rooms go to the people who value them most in total, and prices are set so that no one would trade their room for someone else's at the posted prices. It's slower, but it settles arguments.
Questions people ask
How much more should the room with its own bathroom pay? Usually 10–20% more on that room's private share. The default here is 15%.
What share is "shared space"? Often 30–50%. A big living room and kitchen push it up; tiny common areas push it down.
Is it legally binding? No. It's a starting point you agree on together. Your lease is still with the landlord for the full rent.
